More than one person can edit a workbook at the same time. This is called co-authoring. However, everyone will need a version of the Excel app that supports co-authoring.
By default, workbooks are only allowed to be edited by one at a time unless you've enabled sharing on it. To check if sharing is enabled, go to the Review tab, click Share Workbook and uncheck Allow changes by more than one user at the same time .
Click Share Workbook in the Review tab. Click Editing and check the "Allow changes by more than one user" box. Click Advanced and select the track changes and update features you want to use. As other users edit and save the workbook, each person's copy will update.
Edit data in a cell Open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app. In your spreadsheet, double-tap the cell you want to edit. Enter your data. Optional. To format text, touch and hold the text, then choose an option. When done, tap Done .
If a worksheet or presentation is locked for editing and can't be edited in the Windows desktop applications, it may be that the file is already being edited by someone else, or they have the file checked out.
Re. Turn Off Read Only Close the Excel wookbook. Right click on that specific Workbook. Select Properties. Uncheck Read only. Click OK.
Enable or disable Edit mode Click File > Options > Advanced. , click Excel Options, and then click the Advanced category. Under Editing options, do one of the following. To enable Edit mode, select the Allow editing directly in cells check box.

Unlocking a Locked Excel File on a PC From Explorer, search for the Excel File in question. Right-click on the Excel file you want to edit. Select Properties. Go to the bottom of the General Tab. Uncheck the Read Only check box. Click OK to finalize.
