I have had this problem as well but found Cute PDF Writer (I use the PC version) preserves URL s when converting from Word to PDF. In the case you don't 'Save As' but rather Cute PDF is installed as a printer so you would 'Print To' Cute PDF.
How can I stop Word 219 from dropping italics when Saving As PDF?n It in Garamond italic but for some reason the PDF reverts it to Garamond regular. But weirdly Ive got image captions in Calibri that are saving as italics. italic If you are not using the faux-italics that Word can generate then there are two other possible causes I can think of; The font you are using is not licensed for inclusion in PDF. Not many foundries block this but it does happen. In those cases the only option is to find (i.e. buy) another version of Garamond without these limitations or use another font altogether.
I presume youre referring to Word on Windows. From what we know (weve done a lot of tests and checking of the PDF generated by various PDF creation mechanisms). Adobe PDF creation is the most reliable and proper. You get bookmarks s etc. Word in-built PDF creation is like an after-thought (most probably it was simply added because usersed). Others may not agree with me but after 15 years of PDF knowledge that our conclusion.
PDF (portable document format) doesn really reformat but it appears that way only because it formats a page to appear as you built it. It may not look the same because you have paragraph marks everywhere before converting to PDF but be assured it is the same document. If it is a PDF converter from a 3rd party application Acrobat may be formatting the document according to its own application and it is only formatting to its tools such as signing capabilities etc. There is really nothing to worry about. It doing you a favor by organizing it to have ready for another user to share annotate sign or whatever. The spaces for signing may be wider for to receive a signature. Also it can format to the of reader that will receive it and it knows which reader of its same of PDF converter at the other end according to your of Operating System. As you convert it the programming clicks in and makes it appear that something has changed when really it hasn but only some lines are wider to make way for signature etc. But I have a feeling you already knew about these things.
Recovering the document in this case is to convert the PDF to docx if you don have the document saved as doc or docx. You can convert the PDF to docx just by opening the PDF document in the MS Word. But the conversion will not be very good. You may need to do little tweaking manually to make the document perfect. No PDF to word conversion tool is perfect. Also simpler documents will be easier to convert thanplex documents.
You won at least until MS manages to own the PDF format. Until such time it will probably remain an export option Go to your File tab and look for something like This is for 216 version. If you are using something else the names may change but the process is essentially the same unless you have something really old like a 95 version. (in that case it will not have been programmed into the product)
